In memory of Brenda G. Johnson, the mother of Demetrius Johnson, Jr., the organization has created the Brenda G. Johnson Memorial Scholarship to help support students attending historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) and Minority-Serving Institutions. She passed away in Chicago, Illinois, on May 9, 2020, at the age of 64.

Although Brenda never attended college, she was a huge supporter of her son, Demetrius Johnson, Jr., who attended the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB), and of the HBCU Campaign Fund. She was born and raised in Slaughter, Mississippi, and later moved to Chicago, Illinois, where she worked for United Airlines for 20 plus years.
