WASHINGTON, DC – The Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF) welcomes board member and former President of Delaware State University, Dr. Harry L. Williams as the new President & CEO taking office this month.

Last October in a surprise announcement, TMCF announced that Dr. Williams would be taking the helm after than current President & CEO Johnny Taylor Jr., announced his departure to move in leading one of the world’s largest associations, the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) as President & CEO.

In a letter entitled “I’m passing the TMCF baton to DSU president Dr. Harry L. Williams” contributed to the New York Amsterdam News by Taylor, he stated:

“I am proud of the work our team accomplished under my leadership at TMCF. While it is true that we raised over $100 million, including a record-setting $42+ million investment from Apple and a $26 million gift from Koch Industries and the Charles Koch Foundation, the thing that was always most important to me as TMCF’s President & CEO was Human Resources. We had to have the right team. Every morning I came into the office knowing we had extremely talented people who were motivated to help HBCUs thrive. Whether it was our TMCF Campus Coordinators and Talent & Acquisition teams working directly with our students, our Government Relations team advocating for Black colleges on Capitol Hill and in the White House, or our Revenue team making incredible partnerships and securing millions of dollars for the Black college community via TMCF, our people represented the best in the business.”

Dr. Williams made history as the first sitting university president to serve as president & CEO of the Thurgood Marshall College Fund.

During his eight-year tenure leading DSU, Dr. Williams provided himself to be a prolific fundraiser, passionate advocate, and strategic planner for the school. He increased student enrollment every year, made incredible partnerships with government and private organization resulting in several multi-million dollar grants and investments into the campus.

Dr. Williams’ extensive leadership background in Historically Black College and University (HBCU) and higher education spheres earned him the National TRIO Achiever Award, TMCF Education Leadership Award, and HBCU Digest named him one of the “Top 10 Influential HBCU Presidents” in the country. He has served in senior positions at the University of North Carolina General Administration, Appalachian State University, and North Carolina A&T State University. He is also a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.
