PINE BLUFF, AR – The Tom Joyner Foundation will feature the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB) as its School of the Month (TJSOM) for September. Now more than ever, the Tom Joyner Foundation is committed to the future of Historically Black Colleges and Universities because they continue to play an important part of educating our nation’s youth and producing future doctors, lawyers, business executives, scientists and philanthropists.

According to a press release from the university, each month, the Tom Joyner Foundation designates a Historically Black College and University to receive its support. The scholarship support money is sent directly to the HBCU for students. The scholarships are awarded to the students through the Financial Aid Department based on financial need and other requirements from the school and the donors.

In 1998, the Tom Joyner Foundation began giving financial scholarships to African American students who were in need at Historically Black Colleges and Universities. To date, the foundation has raised and given away over $50 million in assistance to thousands of students. According to the organization, each HBCU selected for this honor will provide at least 100 scholarships.

As the Tom Joyner School of the Month, UAPB will use its fundraising efforts to support the Tom Joyner Scholarship at UAPB.

“We need alumni, faculty, students, local community and everyone who has a desire to help students to give to the school of the month initiative,” said Dr. Margaret Martin-Hall, Director of Development and Title III. “We ask that all UAPB supporters help by giving and encouraging others to give as well.”
