Dr. John Jones and Dr. Marcus Chanay named in new appointments at Lincoln University

JEFFERSON CITY, MO – In competing her third week as the second woman and 20th president of Lincoln University of Missouri, Dr. Jerald Jones-Woolfolk has announced new administrative appointments to the cabinet today. The announcement of new appointments includes Dr. John Jones, Associate Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs for Graduate Education at Keiser University, and Dr. Marcus Chanay, Vice President for Student Services and Enrollment Management at Jarvis Christian College. Dr. Woolfolk’s strategic goal is to move Lincoln forward into the future as a relevant 21st-century HBCU in maintaining its legacy as “This Is Lincoln.”

Dr. John Jones

Dr. John Jones, who will take on the role as Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, completed his undergraduate education at Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, N.C. where he graduated Magna Cum Laude in 1983. After working with the Department of Social Services in Mecklenburg County, he pursued and completed his master’s and doctorate degrees at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in education research and evaluation and higher education leadership, respectively. Specifically prepared in higher education administration, Dr. Jones has more than 13 years of higher education experience at the senior administrative level, seven of which are direct experiences in academic administration as an associate and assistant to the chief academic officer. His other experience in higher education administration includes, but are not limited to, assessment of student learning and academic administrative operations, academic program assessment and development/implementation, and grantsmanship.

As a higher education administrator at five or more different Historically Black Colleges and Universities, Jones is an expert on institutional accreditation and consults with colleges and universities across the southern region. Dr. Jones is also a member of several professional organizations and associations of institutional research and accreditation.

Dr. Marcus Chanay

Dr. Marcus Chanay will take on his new role as Vice President for Student Affairs. He currently serves in the position of Vice President of Student Services at Jarvis Christian College and previously served as Vice President for Student Life at Jackson State University. Dr. Chanay received his bachelor’s degree in mass communications from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, a masters degree in education administration and doctoral degree in urban higher education both from Jackson State University.

Lincoln University’s Board of Curators named Dr. Jerald Jones Woolfolk as the university’s 20th President on March 13, 2018. Prior to her appointment, she previously served as the Vice President for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management at the State University of New York (SUNY) at Oswego. Dr. Woolfolk served in numerous higher education leadership positions including Vice President for Student Affairs, Enrollment Management and Diversity at Mississippi Valley State University and Vice President for Student Affairs at the College Staten Island-City of New York.

Dr. Woolfolk holds a bachelor’s of science in psychology degree from Jackson State University, a masters of science in counselor education from Iowa State University; and a doctor of philosophy degree in urban higher education from Jackson State University. In addition, she completed the Harvard University Institute for Educational Management; the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU)/Council of Independent Colleges/Academic Leadership Institute Executive Leadership Academy; The AASCU Millennial Leadership (MLI) and the Indiana University Certificate in Fundraising Management.

The appointments are effective July 1, 2018.
