HBCU Campaign Fund (HCF) Elects Two New Members to its Board of Directors

HBCU Campaign Fund (HCF) organization is elated in announcing the appointment selection of Ms. Kalauna R. Carter and Aylssa L. Canty and the re-appointment selection of Victoria Overton and Demetrius Johnson, Sr., as a member of its Board of Directors. These individuals appointments are effective May 20, 2016, to May 20, 2017.

Ms. Kalauna R. Carter is an alumna of Tuskegee University, where she earned a Bachelors Degree of Environmental Science with an emphasis in Forestry, National Resources and Plant and Soil Sciences. Ms. Carter plans to continue to plan her education at Florida Agriculture and Mechanical University pursuing a Master’s degree in either Plant and Soil and Water Science while working for the USDA as a Soil Scientist as well.

While at Tuskegee, Kalauna has served in Several leadership roles such as Tuskegee University Ambassador and Freshmen Orientation leader, Minorities in Agriculture , National Resources and Related Sciences (MANRRS) National Undergraduate Region III Vice President, George Washington Carver Minorities Chapter President (2015-2016), National Women in Agriculture Association President ( 2014-2015), White House Initiative HBCU All-Star Alumni Association Outreach Coordinator (2015-2016) and the National Council of Negro Women, Inc. Section President of Tuskegee University.

Ms. Carter stated that the specific skills she can bring as well as contributions she can bring to the Board that she hopes will be beneficial are her ability to think strategically and analytically, effectively communicate thoughts and the rationale for those thoughts. She will work hard to earn the respect of others serving on the Board as well. Lastly, she will be familiar with the body of knowledge related to both the process for which the group is responsible as well as the subject within which decisions and choices will have to be made.

Canty is an alumna of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she earned her Bachelor of Art in Women Studies and in Public Policy; Social and Education Concentration. Ms. Canty continue her education where she has received her Non-Profit Management Certificate from Salem College. After graduating from Salem College, Ms. Canty worked in housing and advised several cultural clubs. She then decided to continue her education further where she earned her Master’s Degree in Public Administration from North Carolina Central University.

Ms. Canty states that she can bring her specific skills and contributions to the board which includes social media knowledge, knowledge of navigating university administration, awareness of policy issues (Federal and North Carolina), lobbying experience, fundraising skills, and strategic planning.
